Digital nomad visa

Spain has introduced a digital nomad visa (“International Teleworker Visa”) to attract non-European remote workers. It is aimed at those who wish to live legally in Spain while working for clients or companies located abroad.

This visa is known as the Digital nomad visa and is part of the Startup Law (Ley de Startups / Law 28/2022), which came into force in 2023. It is also part of Spain’s strategy to promote innovation and international teleworking. (blueprint-spain.com)

Main conditions

To be eligible, a non-EU applicant must:

🔹 Work remotely for a company or clients outside Spain (a maximum of 20% of income may come from Spain for freelancers). (blueprint-spain.com)

🔹 Provide proof of stable and sufficient monthly income—currently around 200% of the Spanish minimum wage (e.g., ≈ €2,850 in 2026 for a single person). (Remote Work Europe)

🔹 Have a business relationship or contract that has been active for at least a few months, as well as qualified professional experience or a degree. (Realista)

🔹 Take out private health insurance or provide proof of adequate coverage. (Realista)

This visa is initially issued for one year (by the consulate) or up to three years if requested from within Spain. It can then be renewed and, in the long term, leads to permanent residence after five years. (blueprint-spain.com)

Wage portage as a supplement

For non-European freelancers who want to optimize security and compliance, partnering with a Spanish wage portage company is a powerful solution:

✔️ Wage portage allows you to issue invoices and be legally remunerated in Spain, while remaining a non-European resident with a nomad visa.

✔️ It simplifies Spanish social security contributions, tax management, and labor law compliance. In practice, the freelancer is treated as an “employee” by the umbrella company.

✔️ The combination of a visa and wage portage facilitates access to the Spanish market, increases credibility with local clients, and avoids the complexity of autónomo status. It therefore meets legal requirements.

We will help you create your autónomo status. We will provide commercial umbrella services for your services to clients within the European Union. In addition, we will make advance payments to the client under certain conditions. In addition, we will offer you an umbrella employee contract to complement your autónomo status, while respecting the income limit set by your digital nomad visa.

Payrolll service as a supplement

For non-European freelancers who want to optimize security and compliance, partnering with a Spanish payroll service company is a powerful solution:

✔️ Payroll service allows you to issue invoices and be legally remunerated in Spain, while remaining a non-European resident with a nomad visa.
